Format and Overview of CAE

Cambridge Advanced English also known as Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) is a test for people who want to prove their proficiency in the English language for professional or educational purposes. This is a complete test in all areas of language and it studies the student's proficiency. Each CAE is composed of 5 papers namely reading, writing, listening, speaking and use of English.

The speaking test is conducted with 2 candidates and examiners so that students can be realistically assessed for their skills in comprehending English.
Reading section is allocated a total of 1 hour 15 minutes and it consists of 4 parts with a total of 34 questions. This constitutes 20% of the exam and it shows students can deal with different aspects of text such as fiction and non fiction.

The writing test lasts for a total of 1 hour 30 minutes and it consists of 2 parts. It is 20% of the total exam and students complete 2 written assignments in English as part of this test such as essays, reports and reviews.

Listening test lasts for 40 minutes and has 4 parts and 30 questions. It constitutes 20% of the total exam and tests the capability of the student to understand a range of spoken materials such as presentations and interviews.

The Speaking test is 15 minutes long for each pair of candidates and it has a total of 4 parts. It is also 20% of the total exam and it tests the ability of th e student to communicate well face to face.
