Danish Language Proficiency Test 1 For International Students

Students who wish to go for higher education studies to Denmark should opt for the Danish as a Foreign Language/Studieproven i dansk som andetsprog’.

Danish as a Foreign Language Test

Danish Test 1: International students who want admission to Danish medium undergraduate courses must pass the Danish language test called "Studieproven i dansk som andetsprog" or Danish language proficiency Test 1.

This test is conducted by the Studieskolen at one of its exam approved language centres. The registration can be therefore taken at Studieskolen, Borgergade, 12, Denmark:1300, Copenhagen K or Language Centre through local authorities.

Frequency of the Danish Language Proficiency Test

The frequency of this Danish language test is twice a year in the months of May or June and November or December. The submission of the Danish language certificate must be prior to 5th July. The latest test for these students who are applying to be enrolled in September is that of May or June while those in the second semester are going to take the exam in November or December.

The test can either be taken in Copenhagen or the exam approved language centres.

Eligibility for International Students

Studieproven/Danish Language Proficiency Test 1 is for students with foreign background competence in Danish and they can then be admitted to higher educational institutions in Denmark. Classes for this exam are held at registered language centres for the purpose of providing students with free Danish lessons. All international students are eligible for the Danish Language Proficiency Test 1. Applicants from countries that are Nordic and which have either Danish, Sweden or Norwegian as part of their course in school education and qualifying exams are not required to take this test.

Format of the Danish Language Proficiency Test 1

The test also has two oral and written exams which must be passed with at least grade 2 in 4 exam disciplines. For studies in Medicine, Dentistry and Dental Hygiene, students must pass the exam with a minimum grade of 7 at least in all 4 examination disciplines.

Studieproven or the Danish language proficiency test therefore has a verbal and a written part both.

Registration for the Examination

The registration period of the exam is between 1st to 28th October this year. Re-examination is only possible for the May or June exams. There is no system of re-examination for the November or December exam.

Universities which Accept this Exam's Scores

All universities in Denmark accept scores from this Danish Langauge Proficiency test for their undergraduate courses. This exam is in fact required for the successful entry into the courses at Danish higher educational institutions and universities.

The Danish education system is very well organised and the requirement for language proficiency are also needed. International students must appear for this exam especially if they are pursuing Danish medium courses.
